5 Official Meeting with In-laws
One
week later …
Joanna
almost lost her temper for his son’s ignorance. She never expected this storm
would come in the first place. Theo spoke his objection to this marriage
nonchalantly. He even went out before she asked his reason. Then the next day,
he went to Japan for three days business trip.
“Anna,
we could do nothing about this.” Li Qiang, her husband looked tired. He could
not remember how many times he fought with his son to compromise marriage plan.
“Honey,
two days ago, I could not even face Li Jie because of our ungrateful son.”
The
memory of meeting with their best friend at company anniversary was still vivid
in her mind. Amy also attended that party. However, before Joanna excitedly
tried to make them face to face, Theo got emergency call from David about the new
shopping mall tender project. He left in hurry without giving a chance for
Joanna to speak.
Since
he had appeared in the company party, he walked straightforward to the
committee of executives in headquarter office. He only nodded to his parents in
blank expression. His parents have already used to his indifference, but this
time Joanna felt annoyed.
Even
before emcee took a microphone to start the party, Theo’s cellphone rang. Joanna,
holding Amy hand in hand, approached her son. When she tried to talk, Theo
lifted his right air in midair.
“Sorry,
Mom. There was urgent problem which I had to dealt with.”
Then
he turned back and headed to the exit. He did not even aware Amy’s presence as
he was preoccupied with work problem. If only he could notice her, certainly he
would be astonished since Amy looked stunning in positive way. She wore a grey
long dress with U-neck tulle appliques backless which was flattering her
figure. Her hair was tied up in braid and a dark pink rose hung in behind her
left ear. Her fair skin was glowing, her rosy lip looked delicate, and her
manners made many single men approached her to flirt.
Joanna
was speechless when Li Jie introduced Amy. She could believe Amy grew up being
a fine lady who looks mature but with younger look as the same time. Finally,
they met in person for the first time after 5 years passed by. By the time, Amy
spent four and a half years in Australia before returned 6 months ago to her
hometown. She applied for staff in marketing department of health and
nutritious company. Once she got hired, she has been devoted her life to her
job.
In
meeting with her future in-laws, Amy felt guilty toward Joanna who did not
restrain herself from enthusiasm. Back that time, Joanna always cared about
her, then they only kept in touch through phone from 5 years ago. Even though
Amy intentionally avoided her, Joanna never felt angry.
Back
to the present …
Joanna
let out deep sigh. She reached out her phone, then left the living room.
“Sam,
I need your help. Hmmm… about Theo.”
“After
Theo come back from his business trip, call me soon. Get all his schedule for
that day onwards. I need to sort things out.”
Joanna
ended her call. The brilliant idea flashed into her mind and this made a wide
smile appeared in her corner lip.
For
Theo, three days in Japan was worth it. He commanded David to block any call
from his parents. He even went further to extend his stay to be away from his
mother’s nagging. After resumed business matters, he drank a wine peacefully as
enjoyed the view in the hotel balcony. A message beeped from his phone,
disturbing this solitude.
His
face changed drastically to a gloomy. Joanna sent a link website in his Weibo. When
he clicked that line, it led to a headline of online news with the title “A
Sudden Marriage Plan Between CEO Global Star Enterprise and A Daughter of CEO Dreamland
Property”. There was a separate photo of Amy and him.
He
was furious and threw his glass without thinking. The glass scattered into
pieces with loud bang. Unable to control his anger, Theo called David.
“Book
a flight to S city the early one for today. Pack all things up immediately.”
Theo
spoke in one breath. Anger fulfilled his voice. David was confused. Recently,
his boss’s anger has been released frequently. Honestly, David did not mind at
all with his coldness and overbearing manners. However, ever since Theo learned
about his future wife, he lost his temper easily. All employees in the office
are too afraid to stand or even breath one inch from him.
In
another place, in the meeting room of marketing department …
After
meeting finished, Amy heard her colleagues whispered each other. They also
stared at her with mixed feelings. Mostly were implausible look.
“Amy,
come to my office now. I need to talk.” Angela said with firm tone.
Amy
was more confused. She quickly grabbed all documents and followed Angela to her
room. She has no idea what was happening with her teammates.
“Now,
tell me Amy. Are you daughter of CEO Dreamland Property?” Angela asked
blatantly.
Amy
was taken aback. How did her head of marketing department know her identity? She
tried her best to hide it so much.
Angela
smiled sweetly. She could see this was shocking Amy. In fact, she was not angry
nor felt disappointed. She like Amy’s attitude and her devotion for work, so
she did not care all rumors spreading about her. Apart from their professional
life for 6 months, Amy unbelievably showed her sincere heart to customers. She
never found any of her subordinates in three years of her position like Amy who
keep maintaining a good relationship with their customers.
“I
am really sorry, Ms. Jiang. I think a fact that I am a daughter of CEO is
irrelevant with my work.” Amy lowered her head.
Angela
chuckled. “Amy, I don’t criticize you. I am just surprised.”
Amy
lifted her head up and saw a teasing face from Angela.
“Now,
I understand why you faltered an excuse to not call your family every time you
were sick.”
Amy
felt relieved.
“Anyway,
congratulation for your marriage with CEO Global Star. I could not believe, you
will get married to the most wanted bachelor in this city. You are sure
amazing, Amy.”
Angela
looked her admiringly. Everyone in S city knows about Theo, the most wanted
bachelor whom can attract any woman effortlessly. Yet, he will get married soon
with her staff in which is beyond anyone’s imagination.
Amy
looked uncomfortable as Angela seemed scanned her through soul. “Ms. Jiang, I
haven’t married yet.”
Angela
laughed heartily. “I supposed I would get an invitation soon. You would be the
most beautiful bride in this city who married with the most handsome and great
man.”
Amy’s
cheek blushed. She was constantly fidgeting her fingers.
Damn
you, Theo Chen! Now the entire world knows our relationship.
Her
whole body quivered in the thought of marriage.
After
left Angela’s office, almost all her colleagues stepped in and bombarded her
with questions. Amy sighed in defeated feeling. She never understood why the
reporters knew about the marriage proposal.
Amy
tried to recall all interaction between Theo and her which stimulated
suspicion. Her mind was blank. Even the company party of Chen family could not give
any impression of this. Theo did not look at her at all and just left after
received phone call.
Her
phone saved her from this annoying atmosphere. Amy excused herself, but she
pursed her lip when found out Joanna was calling. She cursed silently.
“Amy
dear, would you spare your time this weekend? Let’s have a dinner with your family
in Chen residence. I had called your Dad and he agreed.”
Amy’s
widened in a shock. Her mind stopped thinking and her breath lost the rhythm.
“Dear?
Sweetheart? Are you still there?” Joanna’s voice sounded worry affectionately.
Amy
could not help thinking this matter is out of the control. This is getting more
serious and she was severely reprimanded to Theo.
“Hmmm, I am here auntie.
I am free this week.”
“That’s
good, dear. I will call you soon about this. Come back to your work,
sweetheart.”
Amy
stood up for couple of minutes perplexedly after Joanna’s joyous voice
disappeared. Dinner in the weekend should convey something since family members
of both families would be present. That might be the official meeting to
discuss about marriage matters.
Thinking
about a lifeless marriage with Theo, Amy could not help to worry about her misery.
She was back and forth until decided to call Theo.
Listened
the operator’s voice, Amy almost threw her cellphone. She tried to calm her
down and called another person instead.
David
was exhausted after finished all preparations. He stretched his legs and sat
comfortably at the sofa in his hotel room when his phone rang.
He
felt hesitated when was seeing name on the screen.
“Halo,
Ms. Li.” David answered politely.
“Mr.
Qi, could you allow me to talk with Mr. Chen?” An impatient sound from the
opposite made him anxious.
“Errmmm,
Ms. Li. I am afraid I could not connect you to CEO. He is very busy.”
His
heart was beating rapidly when lying about something. Theo surely commanded him
to block any call from Amy.
“Then,
ask him to call me as soon as possible. I swear I would kill him if I could.”
Amy
hung up furiously. That man was so unreasonable. She was on the verge of life
and death.
David
was stunned. He has been working for 5 years with Theo, but no one who dared to
challenge his boss. Nonetheless, this woman might never experience Theo’s
wrath.
As
expected, Theo could not hold his anger. His face showed coldness which made the
entire of ice in the poles frozen. During the flight and after arrived in S
city, Theo’s cold eyes seemed not faded away.
Theo
lives in a penthouse in the middle of city. He only visited her family in Chen
residence when he needed to. Never had David seen Theo so bothered as he was over
his inability to get himself good excuse for marriage business. There was no
away from Mrs. Chen’s decision! Thought David feeling sympathy to his boss.
