Personal Stories: After Love Part 11

Theo frowned a deep furrow in his brow. He threw the tablet to the desk. David wipe out the beads of sweat in his forehead. He was waiting nervously.

            “Did you prepare counterattack?” Asked Theo coldly.

            David began shivering. The temperature in the office room suddenly was raising. His boss’s aura always intimidated and made the surrounding like in the glacier.

            “We tried our best to block the news, CEO but …”

            “Prepare a car. Cancel all my schedules in the afternoon.” Interrupted Theo with dangerous tone.

            David almost fainted. He quickly rushed to outside, releasing a series of breath.

            Theo tapped his fingers on the table. The news about the arranged marriage was spread all over the internet. Even in the board executives meeting, he got congratulations from shareholders. Her mom is indeed capable to make him speechless.

            He gave a calling after pondered in long time.

            “It’s me.” His cold voice swept over the line.

            In the other line, Amy’s face creased into a sarcastic smile. In the last two weeks, she was very annoyed with this man. The day when Carrie have spent in one ward hospital, he called her. Cold tone, no emotions, and domineering pressure almost suffocated her.

            Amy tried her best to speak softly, but Theo always angered her. He spoke lazily and straightforward.

            “Mr. Chen, I am very busy.”

            Theo frowned in displeasure. “Ms. Li, meet me in the restaurant for our blind date.”

            Without waited her response, Theo cut the phone line. Amy gritted her teeth in full anger. She glared hatefully towards her cellphone. Carrie was approaching her and creased her brows when catching her best friend’s crinkle.

            “What’s wrong? Who dare angered you to that extent?”

            Amy took a heavy breath. “Just demonic tyrant.” She gruntled with big pout.

            Carrie’s voice cracked into big laughter. Amy shot sharp glare. This made Carrie abruptly closed her mouth, struggled to restrain her laugh.

            “Sorry, honey. So, what was your husband’s order?”

            Amy took a while to ponder something. The sudden online news which spread rumor about their arranged marriage should be managed by someone. She is not stupid after all with such commotion. This demonic man should not let her off to impose his plan.

            Carrie elbowed her, interrupting her wandering thought. Amy startled and realized they are still in the hospital. Today Carrie is discharged after spending three days to recuperate.

            “I am fine, Carrie.” Amy waved her hand repeatedly, pretending not affected by the pressure. In fact, she tried hard to convince herself that everything would be alright.

            A half hour later, she entered a coffee shop “HAPPIE”. The interior remains the same the last time she came. She was scanning every face and finally found a handsome man was taking a sip elegantly in the corner near to the big window. The glowing light from huge glass window enveloped his face, illuminating “halo” effect which make anyone would feel restless. His two buttons of white shirt are undone, revealing his masculine aura while his deep black eyes are focusing on the papers.

            A waiter greeted Amy, but she politely gestured rejection and strode quickly to the man.

            “I am sorry coming late, Mr. Chen.” She opened her mouth in distant tone.

            Theo lifted his head, not giving respond nor replying. His face remained expressionless, making Amy twitched her lips unconsciously. As she just put her butt for seconds, a waiter came to pour a mineral water to a glass cup and asked her order with professional smile.

            “Cappuccino, please.”

            ”Anything else, miss?”

            Amy shook her head and smiled sweetly.

            After waiter left them, Theo handed in a paper. Amy saw him with a confused look.

            “Read this agreement and sign it.” This man’s tone sounded too overbearing even though he spoke flatly, devoid any emotions.

            Curious, Amy set her eyes on the paper. A prenuptial marriage. Her eyes widened in shock. She groaned her despair but did not dare to roar it to this heartless man.

            “Mr. Chen, you said before that you will try your best to persuade your parents to evade this marriage and I promised to do so either. We cannot …”

            Theo cut her speech with a slight sneer. “Miss Li, do you think I can win over my mom while she adores you that much? I don’t understand what’s Miss Li specialty that my mom took a liking.”

            Indeed, he tried his best to give excuses even to the extent busying himself with business trip over past week and rationed his mom when they were arguing in high intense. Not only did his mom kept stubbornly, but she also threatened him with the past promise between his grandfather and this woman’s grandfather. When his mom gave a small wooden box with a ring inside it, his expression turned colder. He was more frustrated when his mom was going far to spread rumor about the arranged wedding which resulted a high uproar on the internet. He could not even stand with his employees gossiping quietly behind his back when they took a break.

            His mom gained upper-hand over him even before he came up with his plan. He hired a woman as his girlfriend two days ago and said that this woman was pregnant with his baby, making his mom was crying endlessly.

            “Theo Chen, are you really need to go lowering yourself just to escape from this marriage? Do you think I don’t know you are black-bellied son?”

            His mom became emotional and screamed out until she was breathless. Theo breathed helplessly. Even his dad glared so hard as he tried to calm Joanna down. He was defeated to this point and chose to let his mom did whatever she want to.

            Amy complained secretly. This man was so annoying. She clasped her hand in anger and hide it under the table. Theo saw her strange expression, but he ignored it. His face was still emotionless even when he took a sip. His cellphone rang. Without care, he grabbed it, stood up from the chair and strode away.

            Amy rolled her eyes, felt irritated.

            “Speak.” Theo respond coldly but the corner of his eyes stared at Amy looked dazedly towards window.

            A glimmer of afternoon light enveloped her figure, radiating the spark of illusion. Theo felt the voice from opposite phone sounded so far.

            “ … For now, the news was taken down, CEO. Oh, this evening, there is banquet in the Star Hotel. Mr. Zhang asked your attendance, CEO but I didn’t give him definite answer. Would you like to come, CEO?”

            No respond. Theo was still staring at Amy who looked the scenery and people passing by while her hand supported her chin. Her expression was solemnly quiet.

            “CEO? Hallo? CEO? Young master Chen?”

            Theo felt reluctant to draw his attention.

            “I got it. Tell the elder that I will come for a while. Good work.”

            David in the other line felt puzzled. His boss never got distracted in five years he worked for him. Today was a bit unusual. Although from surface he always looked cold and distant, he never look down people nor became somewhat displeased without reasons.

            Meanwhile, Amy looked outside dazedly with empty eyes. Her lips trembled slightly before she bit it slowly. A drop of tear flowed down from the corner of her eye. Theo stood in stun. The view was dazzling like she was out of painting with the blurry light as background.

            Suddenly a beautiful woman flashed in his memory. She smiled innocently with her big pearl eyes. It always stirred his heart to the point he would lose thoughts. He hesitated to imply his plan. The woman in front him now has exuded the vibe similar with the woman in his heart. His steps felt heavy like something tied up his feet.

            Amy quickly wiped her tear up when she heard steps were walking closely. Her face was back to usual expression. Theo ignored her unusual behavior and sat down expressionless.    

            “Miss Li, I will give you …”

            “One year.” Amy cut his words with firm look.

            Theo furrowed his brows. He shot displeasure look.

            “Young master Chen, don’t you think it is ridiculous getting divorce after three months in marriage? I have my pride.’ Amy sneered with disgust look.

            Theo frown hearing her mark but didn’t speak his annoyance.

            “Besides, this will ruin our family’s reputation. People will make a fuss over it. I hate being a subject of gossip.”

            A silence spread in the air. Amy took a sip as she maintained her facial expression.

            “Six months.” Theo spoke coldly.

            Amy clutched the edge of the cup. Her heart tightened painfully. This was really humiliating.

            “Agree.” She responded in very low tone, almost sounds a whisper.

            The next seconds, she even didn’t remember all words spoken by Theo. Her mind was in a mess. She just nodded and barely spoke few words.

            In the middle sunny day, Amy was walking without paying much to her surroundings. Her face looked lifelessly. She even had not noticed people who were passing by looked at her weirdly.   

            “Amy, I never love you. Not even once. I just play game with you.” Cold, hatred, and disgust look appeared in someone’s face. His words always haunted her lately.

            Amy’s body trembled. She tried to inhale and exhale many times. Her chest felt breathless. This made her legs staggered. When she could not endure it anymore, her steps stopped. She squatted down with her head bow down between her hands on the top of her knees.

            Someone grabbed her arm and pull her up. Amy startled and instinctively stepped back. A familiar handsome face looked at her emotionlessly, but a slight concern flashed in his eyes although it disappeared suddenly.

            “Get in car.” He spoke flatly.

            Amy brushed his hand.

            “No need, Mr. Chen.”

            “Don’t make me repeated my words. Get in my car.” His tone became harsh.

            Amy pouted with unwilling expression. Theo took a deep breath. Actually, when he was driving by passing her, his heart became heavy. This woman looked pitiful with blank expression and white face.

            Inside the car, during the journey Amy stared scenery outside the window in the same position. Her hands were put on her lap while a few strands of her shoulder-length hair loose covering a half of side face. She seemed soulless, so Theo tried hard restraining his curiosity. He has seen her appeared mysterious many times. Back to the café, she even did not utter complains about the marriage agreement. However, Theo felt restless when caught hate explosion from her big crystal eyes even for a short time.

Jasper breathed a heavy sigh. Theo’s coldness toward women was amusing, even though he grew up surrounded by beauties since childhood. He simply pushed them without took a glance and his indifferent was getting chill when women were clinging boldly. Joanna, his mother tried many times to set him up with daughters from rich family since he was in the college, but he never batted an eye.

            “Okay, everyone please leave.” He said in a low sexy voice as giving a sign with his right hand. Two beautiful young girls left reluctantly.

            Theo took a sip from his glass in elegant manner. Previously, he almost threw a young sexy woman a moment ago. He did not even bother to pay attention her beautiful face and revealing dress which could lead men into temptation.

            Jasper admitted Theo’s strong resistance toward women somehow entertaining. They met in the high school and became friends since then. People were afraid to approach Theo since he was very cold and intimidating. Jasper used to that kind of behavior since middle school he befriended Ryan Wu who had similar vibes in few ways but in weird one.

            The room was in death silent. A thick cold air was increased and suffocating.

            “Mate, have you decided to give in? You hate to defy Aunt Anna and that girl surely has her support.”

            Jasper was seeing Theo’s expressionless face, trying to read his mind. Theo always had solved many troubles beyond his expectation. However, he knew his best friend would finally surrender to Aunt Anna since he never wanted against her will.

            “Where is Ryan?”

            Theo asked calmly, evaded his curiosity. Jasper’s lip curved up, not expected the change of topic.

            “He was very busy with operations. His respected professor always asked his accompany whatever he had operations.”

            Theo shook his glass slowly before took another sip. For couple of days, he had planned to postpone the marriage business. He anticipated his mom’s stubbornness, but he never thought she really adores Amy to the advanced level. This is the first time his mom showed much affection to the girl and wanted her so bad to be her daughter-in law.

            When the night passed by and the city was transformed into bright light, people were busy with their rhythms. The gentle and warm wind blew away all tiredness while the hustle and bustle of the city were transpired on that night.

            In one of wards of Shenyang Hospital, Amy was standing in the side of bed. Meanwhile, Carrie was lying down on the bed, looked guilty at her.

            “So, you met him after two years he dumped you?”

            Carrie responded her calmness with an offensive look. “It was happened accidentally, okay? I don’t know that his office was dad’s client.”

            “But you have suffered a lot in the past few days. I almost got heart attack when doctor said that your sick was terrible.”

            Amy tried to suppress her distressed emotion. Carrie looked away from her eyes. She felt very weak when reminisced about her happiness being in love with someone. The room suddenly was too quiet for some time.

            “I am really sorry, Amy.” She whispered helplessly.

            Their twenty years friendship developed deep understanding even without saying words. Amy shook her head abruptly.

            “I will buy porridge, so you should have a rest.”

            Amy disappeared instantly. Carrie took a long breath when was seeing her receding figure.

            “Amy, you have your own problem. I should not bother you with my silly mistake.”

            She then grabbed her cellphone from bedside table, searching more news about Amy. Weibo was exploded by rumor about marriage plan between Li and Chen families. Many harsh comments were posted below, all of those came from women.

            “How dare the average woman like her dream to be the wife of Mr. Theo Chen. I am more beautiful and attractive”

            “Shame on you! A prince like Mr. Theo Chen deserves to get married to a beautiful and elegant lady from the same status”

            “Mr. Theo Chen is a perfect man. How could you be standing beside him with your appearance?!”

            Carrie turned off the phone angrily after minutes scrolling down the comments. She really wanted to pull out the haters’ hair and gave them a good lesson.

            Damn! How dare they compare themselves to Amy who is much more beautiful and exceedingly charming.

            “Amy, how we should deal with this? You should be happy after getting through so much pains.”

            Carrie closed her eyes, held back the tears which was flowing continuously.

            Meanwhile, Amy walked through long corridors. She was being immersed in her thoughts. This Saturday, Aunt Anna begged her to visit the Star Mansion to make desert. She also invited her to go shopping after lunch. Initially, she turned down the offer politely, however Aunt Anna was too stubborn to persuade her.

            She dazed when was walking through the first floor. From the opposite direction, a tall and handsome man wearing white coat was holding a cup of coffee and checking messages in his cellphone.

            Their arms bumped each other. This cause the coffee from cup to squirt and spill to his coat. He hissed in shock since the coffee was still hot. Amy startled and instinctively stretched out her hand to reach the cup. However, she stunned blankly when in a blink of an eye the liquid stained the white coat. Few people who passed them was casting a glance, then walked away after seconds. However, women were secretly admiring the man’s handsomeness for long time. Some of them even stayed from a far and pretended busy with their phones.

            Amy shook her head in regret.

            “I am really sorry.” She bowed down and spoke in terrifying tone.

            The guy stared her attentively. His lip curved upwards, more like smirking. Amy felt so awkward when she was bowing but the guy did not reply. Her eyelashes fluttered, and her breathing was hold tightly. Little did she know that the guy secretly smirked when was staring at her.

            When Amy lifted her head, the man’s smile disappeared instantly. He put his left hand in the pocket of his pant. He looked back with seriousness, pretending that Amy had done terrible mistake when bumped him.

            Amy sighed disappointed and not uttered a single word. Her clear crystal eyes seemed in deep thought.

            Just she wanted to break their gazes each other, the man took deep and long breath.

            “Miss, I still have a schedule for another surgery at 11 pm. I just finished the coronary artery bypass surgery about 15 minutes ago.”

            Amy felt like someone choked her throat. She looked down.

            “How do we should deal with this?” The man tried hard to hold his smile.

            This woman looks so cute! The man cursed helplessly in mind.

            “Doctor, I would like to buy a coffee, but to do laundry your coat, I am afraid it is inappropriate.” Amy spoke low. Her face was full of guiltiness.

            The man was snapped from his wandering thought. A brilliant idea suddenly invaded his head. He smiled a little while Amy looked confused.

            He suddenly took his white coat off and stretched out it to Amy. When he wanted to speak, Amy quickly snatched it.

            “Doctor, I will make sure your coat and a coffee be delivered before surgery.”

            Without waiting the man’s reply, she was walking hurriedly. The man was stunned. This was not something he expects for.

            Amy sighed with relief outside the hospital since she avoided the awkwardness successfully. The man she met looked familiar, but she could not recall who is he. Realizing the time, Amy dropped this thought soon and went to car park.

            Almost an hour later, Amy came back to hospital. She tried to remember which area was when the coffee accident happened. Her mind turned blank. This is the biggest hospital in S city. How was she supposed to know which department the guy worked for?

            Suddenly she remembered small part of her last memory.

            “…. I just finished the coronary artery bypass surgery about 15 minutes ago.” It should be the department of cardiology.

            Without delay, she approached the information desk. Smiling politely, she was standing in front of a woman who dressed like a receptionist in a five-star hotel. Her white formal attire emitted professional aura.

            “Miss, what can I help you?”

            Amy took a breath before spoke. “Hmmm miss, could you help me to hand in the coffee and the coat to a doctor Wu.”

            “Which doctor Wu do you referred miss?”

            Amy knitted her eyebrow, looking confused. The woman smiled sweetly with patient look.

            “We have doctor Richard Wu and Ryan Wu from different department.”

            Amy cursed the man in her heart. Even on the top right side of white coat it is only written the first letter and the surname. This man is so annoying, whether he is to lazy to let someone engraved full name or like everything in a simple way.

            “Miss?” The woman smiled friendly, tilting her head and anticipating the answer soon.

            Amy quickly adjusted her expression. “I am sorry, I don’t know which one, but he is tall by 180 something, looks young with black jet hair and brown eyes.”

            Along with her speech, the receptionist seemed realizing who that person and her expression turned ugly. In the past, there were many women who admire doctor Ryan Wu and forcefully requested her to deliver their gifts. Her heart felt sour. She did not dare to act the same since doctor Wu hated it so much.

            “Miss… miss…”

            The receptionist was back from wandering thought.

            “I think you are looking for Doctor Ryan Wu from Department of Cardiology and Geriatrics. I will give the stuff to him.”

            Amy passed a cup and a coat to her. When the receptionist put it without care, she felt uneasy.

            “Hmmm, miss…”

            The receptionist raised her head and faintly responded. “Mmm…”

            “Please passed it soon, miss. I think that doctor need his coat for 11 am operation.”

            The receptionist shot a displeasure look.

            “Rest assured, miss.” She tried hardly to suppress her jealousy.

            “Miss…”

            “Jenny Lang.”

            Amy caught the unpleasant in her face, smiling coldly. “Miss Lang, I bumped accidentally to that doctor. If the doctor asked about me, please say that I am in rush of something. If only he asked, otherwise just gave that things.”

            Amy left the information desk, entered the lift and ran to pass the long corridor in the fifth floor with sneering. Indeed, miss Lang relaxed face after heard her explanation was hilarious. Handsome men are truly a disaster.
